Kentucky principals are encouraged to apply to attend the Kentucky Chamber Foundation’s Leadership Institute for School Principals – a program providing high-level executive leadership training which aims to improve schools from the inside out. The training is provided by the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), a top-ranked, global provider of leadership education and research. The Kentucky Chamber Foundation has developed a strategic partnership with CCL, using its executive training expertise for school leaders.
Since 2011, more than 100 Kentucky principals have completed the institute at no cost to themselves thanks to donations from Kentucky’s business community. Companies such as UPS, Makers Mark, Alliance Coal, Booth Energy, CSI (of Paducah), AT&T, and Toyota – along with dozens of small companies – have donated funds to make the program possible. Interested companies are still encourage to donate. To find out how, contact Kelly Wolf at 502-848-8725.
The cost to attend the institute is $9,000 per principal – but because of the donations, there are no out-of-pocket expenses. The training includes a three-day session at the CCL campus in Greensboro, N.C., and four days of training by CCL instructors at the Kentucky Chamber’s headquarters in Frankfort.
The Leadership Institute trains principals to:
- build a high-performance culture;
- influence others to ensure student success;
- explore how knowledge of individual strengths and developmental needs can produce positive outcomes for students, schools and communities; and
- practice new behaviors for positive results.
“The experience has been invaluable to me as an educator,” said Picadome Elementary Principal Jennifer Hutchison, who completed the program in 2013. “I greatly appreciate the business leaders who made this possible.”
This year, dozens of elementary, middle and high school principals from across Kentucky representing both public and private schools will be selected. Though all applicants will be considered, preference will be given to those early in their career. Applications must be submitted by midnight on Wednesday, March 15, 2013.
“We are excited about being able to offer this opportunity to educators in Kentucky,” noted Dave Adkisson, secretary of the Chamber Foundation and president and CEO of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. “Employers understand the positive impact of strong leadership in the workplace, and the same is true of schools. That’s why we think it is important Kentucky principals be given executive-level training similar to that provided for corporate leaders.”
